I completely agree that conventional and organic farmers have to work together as there is so much that we can learn from each other. We do need to push for more independent advice rather than the biased material we get from chemical companies. When I was at college it was difficult to leave the lecture hall without an armful of government funded ADAS booklets! Agree with your point with regard to the NFU and Soil Association...there is no "I'm right and therefore you are wrong".John Pawseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03093347544281978875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4028581292840950905.post-82688882518457725422011-10-08T04:08:39.265-07:002011-10-08T04:08:39.265-07:00Being a "conventional" or non organic fa...Being a "conventional" or non organic farmer ( it depends on your view).this is one of my main concerns with gm crops. We are told by the great and good that the future lies with technology, by which they mean gm .
I have yet to see any yield increases from gm , ease of management definitely and as chemistry runs out of possibly this could be the last gasp of a moribund industry.
We need a fresh approach, more r&d into a possible hybrid of organic and conventional.
In my opinion, organic has a lot to offer, but only survives on limited take up by farmers thus creating a shortage of goods for sale .if most farmers went organic the price would plummet thus negating gains from lower yields.
It's time to put aside differences and work together the spat between Peter Kendall and Helen Browning doesnt do any good to anybody.Markhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12022936000380210337noreply@blogger.com
